Welcome to the Geothermal Projects Portal
This is the portal to geothermal projects
Today deep-seated geotheramal projects do not fail primarily due to technical- and geological problems. In fact, it becomes increasingly evident that the success of geothermal energy generation projects depends vitally on qualified answers in the fields of risk management, financing, project organization, economic efficiency and contract law.
According to our estimation during the next 10 to 15 years an investment volume of up to 6.5 billion € will be prepared to deep-seated geothermal power plants. Experts agree that the Southern German Molasse Basin is the largest and most important geothermal reservoir in Central Europe.
On the following pages you find information about:
- geothermal energy in general
- up to date information and photos of Germany´s biggest geothermal plant for combined heat and power production located at Unterhaching
- your possibilites as a private or public investor

Mr. Kai Imolauer from Rödl & Partner will attend the symposium “Energy-Future” on 9th October as a speaker in the group “Geothermal Energy”. The topic of his speech will concentrate on Germany´s largest geothermal energy project in Unterhaching and on risk management.
- Subsidy Guidelines Geothermal Energy: Currently there are many different possibilities to subsidize the financing of geothermal projects. Beside deep geothermal energy e.g. district heating networks are subsidized as well. In this context there are two subsidy programs and diverse funding programs from the KfW which are presented in detail by Rödl & Partner in the “Subsidy Guidelines Geothermal Energy”. To complete the guidelines, sample projects and the current situation of funding guidelines which have to be considered in this context are analyzed on a European level.
